Downspout Installation in Rincon, GA
A gutter only collects water. The downspout decides where it goes, and on a lot of houses that's right next to the foundation.
Why Placement Matters
Every gallon your roof collects comes out the bottom of a downspout. If that spout sits next to the slab or crawlspace, the gutter has just moved the problem a few feet. Water pools against the foundation, soaks the soil under it, splashes dirt up on the siding, and washes out mulch and plants.
On a lot of newer homes, downspouts end up wherever the corners are, not where the yard can take the water. Lots in the coastal plain tend to be flat, so water doesn’t always run away on its own. Where it lands matters.

Rincon Pays Attention to Runoff
Rincon runs a stormwater utility. It bills by impervious surface, with one billing unit for every 3,000 square feet of hard surface, and roofs count. Every single-family home is billed one unit. The city’s stormwater consultant has pointed to erosion problems around town. So where your downspouts send roof water isn’t just about your foundation. Water that sheets across a yard into the street or a ditch is part of the same problem the city is paying to manage.
Gutter Services in Rincon
One crew handles all of it, from a single leaking corner to a full commercial system. Every job starts with a visit and a written estimate.
Request a Free EstimateWhat We Look at
- Grade. Which way the ground falls away from the house, and where it doesn’t
- Hard surfaces. Driveways and walks that can carry water off, and ones water shouldn’t cross
- Beds and landscaping. Where a spout would wash out new plantings
- Neighbors. Water shouldn’t end up pointed at the house next door
- Roof load. Valleys and big roof planes that concentrate water on one corner
Then we decide how many downspouts the system needs, where each outlet goes, and how far each one has to carry water past the house.
Sizing
Bigger gutters need bigger downspouts. A 6-inch gutter, which is our standard, pairs with a larger downspout than the small ones you’ll see on many builder-grade homes. A large outlet moves more water and clogs less often with pine straw.
Getting Water Past The House
Where a downspout ends is only half of it. The other half is how far the water travels before it soaks in. The common options:
- Extensions. A length of downspout or a flexible pipe that carries water several feet out from the wall. Simple and cheap, but they can be in the way of a mower.
- Splash blocks. A concrete or plastic tray that spreads the water and keeps it from digging a hole. Good on lawns, not enough on their own next to a slab.
- Hinged or flip-up extensions. Fold up when you mow or walk past, fold down for rain.
- Underground drains. A buried pipe that carries water to a spot where it can drain. Best when there’s nowhere close to the house for water to go. We’ll look at your grade and talk through whether it makes sense.
The right choice depends on the spot, and one house can use more than one.
The Fixes We Make Most
- Adding an outlet on a long run that overflows at the far end
- Moving a spout that dumps on a walkway, patio, or driveway and leaves it slick
- Replacing crushed or disconnected elbows
- Adding extensions so water clears beds and the foundation
- Resizing small downspouts when we upgrade the gutters
If the gutter feeding the downspout is the real problem, we’ll quote gutter repair or gutter replacement. New systems get downspouts planned from the start as part of gutter installation.
Keep Them Clear
A downspout plugged at the elbow makes a clean gutter overflow. Every one of our cleanings includes flushing the downspouts; see gutter and downspout cleaning. Gutter guards help too.

Questions We Hear a Lot
How Many Downspouts Does My House Need?
It depends on the roof area draining to each gutter run and how long the run is. Long runs and big roof planes need more outlets. We plan them at the estimate rather than putting one at each corner by habit.
Can You Move a Downspout That Drains in The Wrong Spot?
Yes. We can add an outlet in a better place, reroute the pipe, or add an extension to carry water past a walkway or bed.
Do You Install Underground Drains?
Ask us at the estimate. We'll look at your grade and tell you what we'd recommend for getting water away from the house.
